Bruce Jackson, Unio Goldsmith
I’ve recently moved to Whitianga with the idea to wind back a bit, the lifestyle of the Coromandel has always appealed to my partner, and it took no convincing to come to this beautiful part of the world.
My story starts in London after doing my OE, I sort of fell into jewellery and started learning my craft working with two master jewellers, who had just set a small company that provided services to some of the leading West End Jewellers, including the renowned diamond house Graff Diamonds! The company also made jewellery for several notable clients including members of the Saudi and Kuwaiti Royal Families and the Sultan of Brunei! I learned so much and I am grateful the bar was set very high! Next step was Western Australia where I worked for Award winning Jeweller Linneys, this is where I developed my own style and love of pearls. I eventually was drawn back to New Zealand, and I founded the popular Unio Goldsmith & Gallery in Havelock North (where I could create and exhibit my work, as well as highlight the inspiring work of fellow jewellery artists), but after 18 years after it was time for a change.
The passion is still there though, and I have a small range on display at the Whitianga Art Gallery and will undertake commissions by appointment.
